Selina Lake Outdoor Living * First Preview

I'm excited to share a sneak preview from my new book Selina Lake Outdoor Living, published by Ryland Peters & Small with photography by Debi Treloar and the 1st of my books with words by me. Selina Lake Outdoor Living follows on from my previous four best selling books, Bazaar Style, Romantic Style, Homespun Style and Pretty Pastel Style. It's available to Pre-Order now and is due to be released on 27th March, although some stockists have and will be getting it in early!
The book begins with my Outside Inspirations and I'm excited to share the styling ideas I put together in this wonderful buttercup field in East Sussex owned by the gorgeous Lady behind Sarah-Jane Down The Lane Blog. Dragging this mustard velvet armchair into the sunny floral setting filled me with genuine happiness on the day of the shoot and Debi Treloar has captured everything so beautifully. Huge thanks to my assistant Jess Heggs and Sarah for all their help.
Throughout the book I include lots of ideas with flowers and share my style tips for creating the perfect posies from cuttings from your garden, crafting ideas with fresh flowers and how to use flowers as party decorations, for outside celebrations. In the shot above I'm holding a loose posy I put together using lilacs and peonies from my own garden and roses and sweet peas from The White Orchid.
As well as including ideas for Gardens in the book I also get Out & About and share my ideas for Glamping and how to picnic in style. I like to get crafty with my styling ideas so I have included DIY How to's in each section, you can have a go at my vintage crate seating and table set, lighting ideas, no sew vintage scarf cushion, lavender bracelet and floral hair garland. Plus there are tons of ideas for serving drinks, making decorations and displaying sweet treats in the final chapter, Parties & Celebrations. I'd love to hear what you think to this little taster from my latest book?

*I would like to thank everyone at my publishers Ryland Peters & Small who have helped me produce my 5th book, Barbara Zuñiga for doing a great job designing the book, Debi Treloar for her gorgeous photography and fun times, Jess Heggs and Pippa Blenkinsop for assisting me on some of the shoots and to everyone who sent me styling props and who let us shoot in your lovely gardens, meadows, barns, tents, camper vans, potting sheds, summer houses etc.

Romantic Style Bathrooms

In my book Romantic Style which has just been re-released in paperback I share my style and decorating ideas for how to bring a sense of romance into your homes and gardens. The beginning of the book covers my romantic inspirations with chapters on Vintage, Simple, Modern and Elegant Romantic styles. I have included chapters on Romantic Styling with ideas for Colour, flowers, display and lighting. It then moves on to romantic rooms which covers all spaces from cooking to bathing. Romantic Style bath rooms are beautiful spaces to relax and even the smallest of bathrooms can still be made into romantic spaces. Add a ton of candles, some posies of flowers, invest in a pretty mirror and add some hooks where you can hang towels and pretty robes (I'm a fan of Caro London robes and shower hats). I like to use lace panels as window treatments and pretty details like french Savon Soaps. A bath is a luxury and great for a long soak and a decent shower is a must for any bathroom. I'm quite in love with gold / brass bathroom fittings at the moment, Homebase sells this Gold Westminster bath/shower mixer tap which I think would look amazing in an all white bathroom and the vintage style and luxe gold will certainly add a romantic feel. For more inspiration for your romantic bathroom please check out my book Romantic Style and also follow my Selina Lake - Bathrooms Ideas board on Pinterest. How do you create a sense of Romantic Style in your bathroom?

Spring Pastels Chalky Lime, Lliac & Turquoise

Pastels continue to be a huge fashion trend this Spring with many high street brands releasing new Sherbet / Candy / Ice Cream coloured ranges. My book Pretty Pastel Style which launched almost a year ago is full of ideas for decorating and styling your home and garden using a pastel colour palette. Above are a few images which I hope might inspire you to add some elements of pastels into your home. I love this vintage flower book page and wallpaper flag bunting idea which I featured in my book Homespun Style and how cool is this new triangle rug from Carpetright's new modern rugs range, I think this would look amazing on a white painted or white laminate floor. Pastel coloured Spring flowers are a cheap and simple way to bring pastels into your home, I love making loose posies, here I used soft coloured ranunculus, peachy white roses and bupleurum . If you don't fancy a pastel overload how about this last idea which I photographed at the lovely home of Nicky Grace, she used pretty pastel colours to paint the woodwork in her upstairs hall/landing but kept the walls white. I love the soft lilac mixed with chalky lime and muted turquoise. Are you planning to bring some pastel touches into your home this Spring?

Pretty Washing Up

It doesn't take a lot to make me happy! I love serving our friends and family tea and cakes in my collection of mix and match vintage china teacups, saucers and cakes plates. I even enjoy the washing up afterwards!! I'm the same when it comes to hanging laundry on the washing line on a sunny day. What chores make you happy? (Photo's taken with my Canon Camera)

Happy Valentines Day! all images styled by me &  Photographed by Ali Allen for Ryland Peters & Small - My Wedding Journal

I've been waiting for an opportunity to share some images I styled for a gorgeous new Wedding Journal which my publishers Ryland Peters & Small have produced, and I think Valentines Day is now the perfect time. My Wedding Journal has recently been released and is a must for any Bride to be or newlywed. It features loads of lovely images which I have styled including some from my own wedding reception. With photography by Debi Treloar, Sussie Bell and Ali Allen who photographed all of the above images, and the journals sweet cover shot and lovely design by Maria Lee-Warren. The journal is divided into themes with suggestions as to what you could record, like 'How we meet' and 'The Proposal' etc and throughout there are places to stick your own photos and little pockets to put keepsakes from your big day. It's a lovely memento and would make a great wedding gift. It also comes in a smart presentation box done up with a ivory ribbon bow. Big thanks to Allison Sadler from The People Shop, Gil Fox, Pipii and Talking Tables for supplying some of the products and props I used, Monsoon/Accessorizes & H&M for the fashion and David Austin Roses for supplying loads of gorgeous roses!
